Mission Statement
Our Mission is to work in collaboration with the community to provide excellent primary medical and dental care that is accessible, affordable, and available to all individuals in Southeast Georgia. It is the passion of the staff and Board of Directors to deliver a spirit of understanding and involvement.
Our History
Through the dream of a great spiritual leader
Rev. Arnold McKinney had a vision to assist individuals struggling with medical bills and the lack of quality medical care at an affordable cost. Rev. McKinney combined with the committed and steadfast efforts of the Ware County Coalition Board, the Macedonia Baptist Church, the Ware County Health Department, with a host of other community organizations and individuals inside and outside of Ware County. Through these dedicated efforts, he was able to receive a program planning grant from the Department of Health and Human Service (DHHS) in October 1994, and in March 1995, Ware County Family Practice opened its doors. This federally qualified health center began with one pediatrician.
McKinney Expanded
In 1997, a main office was built at 218 Quarterman Street and the name of Ware County Family Practice was renamed to McKinney Community Health Center (MCHC) in honor of the Rev. Arnold McKinney, who died a year prior to the new site opening. In 1998, MCHC primary health care expanded to Nahunta and opened an Outreach site in a building donated to the health center. In 2000, the Nelson Green Senior Center was awarded the responsibility of managing the county senior center. In 2002, MCHC personnel began traveling to Offerman once a week to offer medical screenings at city hall. Then in April 2003, a new medical site was opened at the Lee Street Resource Center in Blackshear. Continued in August 2003, two other sites were opened in Alma (Bacon County), Georgia. 2010 revealed the contribution of Waycross to house MCHC Outreach at the new Hazzard Hill facility. In 2011, MCHC unveiled their new Specialty building, which is located at the main office (218 Quarterman Street).
With the expansion of MCHC, Brantley, Bacon, and Charlton County have been added to the area that they service. McKinney Community Health Center makes a difference in the health of the community. By providing professional care at a cost that people can afford, children can be kept healthy and adults can remain productive. When patients are able to afford preventive health care, then inpatient hospital care and specialty care costs are significantly lowered. Because illnesses are diagnosed and treated at earlier stages, more expensive interventions are often never needed.
